The CVESD School Board’s updated mask rules require all adults to wear masks at all times when on school property and also requires students to wear masks in hallways. Students can still remove masks for P.E., recess, and when eating.

Thursday, August 26 is Fall Picture Day!

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), “Regularly sleeping fewer than the number of recommended hours is associated with attention, behavior, and learning problems,” according to the statement. “Insufficient sleep also increases the risk of accidents, injuries, hypertension, obesity, diabetes and depression.”

Is your child getting enough sleep? Here are the recommended sleep times from the AAP:
Ages 3-5 years: 10-13 hours
Age 6-12 years: 9-12 hours

All screens should be shut down and put away at least one hour before bedtime. You can read about the detrimental effects of devices in the bedroom here.

Please join us for our Virtual English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC)/Coffee with the Principal meeting Friday, August 6th at 8:30 a.m. via Teams. Just click on this link to join. We will record the meeting and post afterward. Topics will include Covid-19 safety and parent participation at school.

Dismissal: We are staggering dismissal times for some grades to reduce crowding in the main hallway. Starting Monday, August 2, Kindergarten students in Mrs. Haase’s & Mrs. Gillespie’s classes will dismiss at 2:00 Monday-Thursday and at 12:45 on Fridays and other minimum days. 1st and 2nd grade students in Rooms 302, 303, 304 and 305 will dismiss at 2:10 Monday-Thursday and 12:55 on Fridays (5 min. before the bell).

Arrival: Students line up with their class on the blacktop and teachers pick them up at the 7:45 bell. Per current CVESD rules, “Parents are expected to leave campus immediately following dropping off or picking up their child”. We appreciate your cooperation in helping us keep everyone safe.

Breakfast is served 7:15-7:40. Students eating breakfast before school may enter through the cafeteria gate. If your child is not eating breakfast at school, they should not arrive before 7:35. If you need to drop your child off earlier, YMCA STRETCH provides FREE before-school care at Finney.

Please follow all posted signs and staff instructions.

Screen your child for Covid-19 symptoms each day before school.

Students and staff are required to wear masks when indoors and may remove masks outdoors.

If your child has any pre-existing conditions, including those with Covid-like symptoms (e.g. allergies, asthma), please provide documentation from the doctor so that we can have it on file. This will help prevent your child from being sent home if they have symptoms from a chronic condition.

Label lunch boxes, water bottles, and sweaters with your child’s name!

Thank you to everyone for a wonderful first week back. What a joy to have the students back in school! We appreciate your patience and understanding as we adjust to our “new normal”.

Starting Monday, July 26, students will line up on the blacktop in the morning*, where they will be supervised by Finney staff. Each class has a designated place to line up. Teachers will pick their classes up on the blacktop at 7:45. Per CVESD guidelines, please say good-bye quickly and exit immediately after dropping off your child. This helps us prevent crowding.

*SDC and preschool parents: please follow your teacher’s instructions regarding drop off.

Please send a water bottle with your child. Water bottles can be filled at the classroom sink.

The first day of school is Wednesday, July 21 at 7:45 a.m., and is a minimum day with 1:00 dismissal. Students report directly to their classroom each day. Per current CVESD rules, “Parents are expected to leave campus immediately following dropping off or picking up their child”. This means you will not be able to linger, congregate, or socialize during drop-off/pick-up.

You will receive an email and phone call on July 20 informing you of your child’s teacher and room number.

Wednesday, July 21: Kindergarten Orientation for students and parents 8:00-9:30 (students and parents leave at 9:30)

School Starts July 21, 2021

We will return for the 2021-22 school year fully in-person! School hours are 7:45-2:15 Monday-Thursday and 7:45-1:00 Fridays and minimum days. The first day of school is a minimum day with 1:00 dismissal.

The school office closes June 22 and will reopen on July 8 at 7:30 am.
