We still do not have a specific date for return to in-person school. Two weeks after San Diego County gets to the RED Tier we will be able to reopen in the Hybrid Model. Red Tier means San Diego County has fewer than 7 daily new cases per 100,000. We currently have 15 new cases daily per 100,000.

Masks and social distancing will be required for all staff and students when we return in person. If you child is not used to wearing a mask, please start practicing now.

Finney’s next Drive-Thru Materials Distribution is this Thursday, March 4 from 12:00-6:00 pm.

It’s Read Across America week at Finney! This week we celebrate the joy of reading. Finney Student Council is sponsoring a Spirit Week for Read Across America. Each day focuses on a different social-emotional skill, with a book of the day to highlight that skill.

FREE COVID-19 testing at Finney on February 18 for students, families and staff. The antibody test consists of a light fingerprick; results as quickly as 15 minutes for those who wait for their results. The viral test is the shallow nose swab test; results available within three-to-four business days. Learn more here: Viral Test for COVID-19. Please complete this quick survey (one for each child) by January 25, 2021. Thank you to all of you who already responded! We really need to hear from everyone so we know your preferences and can plan accordingly. For the Spanish version of the survey, you can change the language in the upper right corner.

This week is the Great Kindness Challenge, an international movement to spread kindness. You can learn about it in this video. Students will work on completing their Kindness checklists this week, and do other kindness activities. Here is the Kindness Checklist in English and Spanish. If you scan the QR code on the checklist, you can download a free app for the Kindness Challenge. We are also having Kindness Spirit Days, sponsored by Finney Peace Patrol.

The community has the opportunity to review and give input on the Comprehensive School Safety Plan at our next School Site Council online meeting on Monday, January 25, at 1:00 via Teams.

Our next Materials Distribution is this Thursday, January 14. This is a no-contact drive-thru event in the parking lot. Please wear a mask and stay in your car. Materials for all grades can be picked up during Meals Distribution 12:00-2:00 or anytime until 6:00 pm. To expedite the process, please write your child’s name, teacher, and grade in large print so you can show us when you arrive.

The next PTA General Meeting is Thursday, January 14 at 2:00 via Zoom.

If your child borrowed a laptop or wifi hotspot in the past, and is not using it, please return it to the school.

Week of January 4, 2021

Quarter Three starts TUESDAY January 5! We are continuing in Distance Learning until further notice.

Parents, we know this school year is hard on everyone, and we appreciate your patience and cooperation more than you can imagine. Please note that students in grades K-6 will take mid-year district assessments this month. The purpose of assessments is to give teachers needed information about how to better support your child. Please help your child’s learning by NOT giving hints or answers when they are taking a test. Thank you for all your support!
